India, Chennai: P Ramkumar , The single suspect in connection in the 24-year-old Infosys employee and techie Swathi murder case in chennai , on Sunday committed suicide by biting a live wire at the Puzhal central prison complex.

As per reports, Ramkumar bit a live electric cable which was concealed in a switchboard. Notably, He was further taken to the Government Royapettah Hospital where his pulse began to drop fastly. As the doctors came to check on Ramkumar, they declared him dead.

A prison official said, "Since Ramkumar had attempted to commit suicide at the time of his arrest, we arranged counseling at the Puzhal prison where he was remanded in judicial custody. We kept a close watch on his activities. He did not show any signs of depression or suicidal tendencies."

Ramkumar had attempted suicide by slitting his throat but was saved.

He is alleged to be the assailant of Swathi, who was hacked to death at Nungambakkam railway station while waiting for a suburban train.

The incident took place on June 24, 2016. The Chennai Police had arrested Ramkumar on the basis of circumstantial evidence and CCTV footage of the site. Ramkumar is an engineering drop-out students and hails from Tenkasi in Tirunelveli district.

The sensational case of Swathi murder case who worked in Infosys sparked nationwide outrage and society condemned the incident. Meanwhile, the family of Ramkumar has suspected foul play in his death.
