News Verification: The Jawaharlal Nehru University has issued a clarification regarding the damage to servers on 3rd January 2020. The JNU said, “The RTI answers are correct and specific to the questions asked. The RTI response also clearly states that servers are located in the CIS data centre not in the CIS office, which seems to be conspicuously ignored while highlighting the matter in the media.”

The JNU further says, “All FIRs and other complaints filed with police are in-line with actual incidents that took place on 3rd January and do not deviate from actual facts. JNU administration reiterates that a group of masked students came to CIS Data centre premises on 3rd January and forcefully evicted the technical staff, switched off the power supply, locked the premises and squatted in front of the main entrance to the CIS Data centre without providing any access to the centre. The masked students forced the technical staff to shut down the CIS data centre”
As per the RTI query,
- The details of the server room located at the North/Main gate of the JNU campus be furnished. The details must include the CCTV cameras and location that are connected to this servers.. for this the JNU RTI reply was none, as there are no servers in that area. This reply was taken out of context and spread as fake news.

It said, Contrary to the claims made by the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) administration in an FIR, biometric systems and CCTV cameras in its server room were not vandalized on January 3, response to a Right to Information query has revealed
It is sad to see the misuse of RTI and presenting the information in the Public domain with misinterpretation.
