Facts Check Analysis: Baby Asma of 30 months is among the injured in a militant attack on fruit merchants in Sopore.  

 

As the news claimed by Shehla Rashid and others on Social media claiming, “Soldiers thrashed and smashed his body of the child with sticks, kicked him in the ribs & broadcast his sobbing pleas for mercy from loudspeakers on the road, terrorizing his village. They ransacked his house & dumped his supply of rice, flour & kerosene into a water tank”. 

This is absolutely fake news shared about the child from Kashmir.

The child in the picture is actually a five-year-old girl named Asma Jaan who was shot by militants in Kashmir. As per nytimes, Asma Jaan, who was shot by militants, at a hospital in Srinagar, Kashmir’s largest city.


As per nytimes, “SOPORE, Kashmir — Four men carrying pistols and wearing black masks knocked a week ago on the Hamidullah family’s gate. Furious that the wealthy apple traders had violated their ban on doing business, the militants announced that there was a price to pay. They took three men into a sitting room in this Kashmiri town and shot them in the leg, right below their knees.

When 5-year-old Asma Jaan heard her father scream, she ran into the room to see what was wrong. The militants shot her, too.”

The incident happened in the early month of September 2017, when Two and a half-year-old girl Asma Jaan who was injured in yesterday's attack by terrorists in Sopore(J&K), is critical. NSA Ajit Doval has asked authorities to bring her to All India Institute of Medical Sciences(AIIMS), New Delhi
