New Delhi: Finally the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the new coach of Team India on Tuesday night. BCCI's acting president CK Khanna said that Ravishankar Jayadritha Shastri (Ravi Shastri) will be Team India's new head coach and former fast bowler Zaheer Khan will play the role of bowling coach in India. Earlier in the evening, media had announced of the making of Ravi Shastri as coach, but the BCCI had denied this news.


After the announcement of BCCI's acting president, it is now clear that Ravi Shastri will replace Anil Kumble. Zaheer Khan will help Ravi Shastri as bowling coach. After the resignation of Anil Kumble from this position was the speculation that the cricketers of the cricket world would become the coach of Shastri. On Monday, BCCI's Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) had interviewed 5 candidates for the post of Chief Coach. Shastri has also been the director of Indian team from 2014 to 2016 and is also the choice of Captain Virat Kohli.

It was believed that the new coach of Team India will be announced on Monday evening, but CAC member Saurav Ganguly had paused the news saying that CAC will discuss the name of the coach after discussing with Virat Kohli. Subsequently, by the Supreme Court appointed Administrative Committee (CoA) head, Vinod Rai, was instructed the board to announce the name of the coach till Tuesday evening. Now officially, the board has announced the name of coach and assistant coach.

It is notable that for the main coach of Team India, 10 out of 10 applications were received for BCCI, out of which 5 candidates were called for interview. On Monday, Virendra Sehwag appeared for the coach post before the CAC and was offered for presenting the presentation. The other four candidates gave interviews through video conferencing. Two members of the 3-member CAC, Saurabh Ganguly and VVS Laxman were present in the interview process directly, while the third member, Sachin Tendulkar, joined the process through video conferencing from London.
