New Delhi: The Central Government has made the Aadhaar card mandatory for opening a bank account. Apart from this, Aadhaar card will also be required in transactions of fifty thousand rupees and above. This information is received by PTI. All account holders have been asked to submit the Aadhaar  card number by December 31, 2017. Otherwise the respective account can be closed.

Before this, there was a lot of controversy about the Center's decision to make the Aadhaar  number mandatory before filling the income tax return. Apart from this, the Aadhaar card was also required to get the new pan.

The case went to the Supreme Court, on which the court had said that the Aadhaar card cannot be compulsory for income tax return till the final decision of the Constitution bench. Although the court had also said that those who do not have the Aadhaar  card, the government cannot insist on linking them to the PAN card. But those who have the Aadhaar card, they have to add it to the PAN card.

The Aadhaar  cards of one billion people in the country have been created. Approximately 80 percent of the country's population has Aadhaar  cards. Indian, Unique Identification Authority (UIDAI) has issued more than one billion Aadhaar  cards in five and a half years. Union Communications Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad gave this information on Monday. Prasad said, "In the country more than 100 crore residents are registered under the Aadhaar .  

The first Aadhaar  Card was released in 2010. Now, 93 per cent of adults, with 67 per cent in children of 5-18 years and 20 per cent in children of five years, have possession. In the State and Union Territories, 90 percent of the population has a Aadhaar  card, while in 13 others it is 75-90 percent. Prasad said, "Every day more than 5-7 lakh people register in the Aadhaar . It has now become the largest online digital identity platform in the world.
