NEWDELHI: The ongoing period of floods in Uttar Pradesh has claimed 36 lives, particularly in eastern area of the state crush by never ending rains, incite authorities to look for the Army's help for remedy and saving from danger operations, officials said today.
The position still, calm in west Bengal and Assam, where no heavy rains were announced. There is a burden of flooding in 75 districts, the Army's assistance has been sought in around six worst-hit districts, including Gorakhpur and Siddharthnagar.
The report of the disaster management department of the state, nearly 14.5 lakh people were hit in 2,013 villages.
Yogi Adityanath chief minister of UP today will fly on the survey of the most affected areas in Balrampur and Siddhartnagar districts to catch stock of the position.
CM Yogi Adityanath supervised the officials to provide airdropping of food package in case the isolated areas were out of reach even by boats.
"All arrangements must be made to supply succour to the needy," he said, and warned that there should be no looseness in flood relief and rescue works.
Three more deaths have been reported since yesterday taking the toll this season to 36, the flood report said, adding that 646 flood outposts have been set up, in which 19,564 people have taken shelter and 209 relief camps for the help of the flood victim.Besides, 49,034 people have been shifted to safer places with the help of NDRF and PAC personnel.
According to a report from Siddhartnagar, the relief and rescue operations have gained momentum with IAF choppers assisting in evacuating people from the affected areas.
