District and Sessions Judge awarded life sentence to Girish Pote (38) for killing his 33-year-old wife Madhuwanti Pathak and then storing her dismembered body inside a refrigerator in 2013, who was born and brought up in France and held a French passport.

Girish Pote has been accused on under Indian Penal Code's sections 302 for murder and 201 for disappearance of evidence.

"You shall remain in prison not for 14 years but till the rest of your life. I have not given death to you," the judge said.

The judge, convicted Pote on Wednesday observed that the prosecution had proved that he has killed his wife beyond reasonable doubt.

The accused moved an application seeking leniency, seeking pardon and told the court that he was remorseful.

Pote worked as a sales manager in a garment's showroom and was jobless for months before the incident took place. he revealed that his wife disliked India and wanted to take the money and fly back to France.  

Pote has a child with Madhuwanti and requested the judge to be allowed to meet him.

On the day of the incident, he convinced his wife that he would let her go back to France. However, he went to a mall and bought a packet of knives, Hinge After returning home, he killed Madhuwanti. Pote could not take the body out of the flat as the building had multiple  CCTV cameras installed in the lobby and the lift.
